I'm Free!!

I got the all clear yesterday from my respirologist... no more supplemental oxygen! She said my lungs are nice & clear and that my O2 sats overnight on room air were great. Our home is quiet for the first time in almost three months... the O2 converter is noisy!

Mom & Dad also received a lesson in a new feeding position for me as I have been labelled as an "aggressive eater". Apparently I eat too fast & this may be a cause of my extreme gassiness and discomfort. Thankfully we have had a lot of nursing support otherwise Mom & Dad would be very lost!

I woke up this morning with a very red right eye with yellow discharge. The doctor says its a plugged duct & that Mom & Dad have to massage it. My Mom is very concerned, though, as "the books" say it may be something more if the eye is red. I've been very fussy tonight so it may be sore or it could be gas or it could be overtiredness or, or, or. I like to keep Mom & Dad guessing!

I had a very fun visit with Mami & Papi Brochu! They arrived Wednesday & left this morning. I was exposed to a lot of French! Daddy & Papi went skiing Thursday and left Mommy & Mami alone together... Mommy doesn't know French & Mami doesn't know English but they communicated just fine. They would just laugh when words could not be found. I napped with Mommy while Mami made pie shells, raisin pie and (Mommy's favourite) tortiere. I can't wait until I'm older to enjoy all the good food out there! Papi had a lot of fun playing with me & I know when I am older I'll have so many laughs with him.

My second vaccinations were this past Wednesday and I did extremely well despite having to be poked 4 rather than 3 times. One of the syringes came off the needle & the vaccine went everywhere except for in my muscle. I did not have any side effects except for sleeping most of the next day. I go back again in March when I am 6 months old.

The Brochu/Yip household is anxiously awaiting Wednesday when I will most likely be taken off supplemental oxygen. Just 4 more days!

... poo just after my Mom has cleaned my bum, applied the medicated ointment and placed a clean diaper underneath me. I did it to her twice the other morning!

Yeastie Beasties

My Mom says "when will all this stop?!" I also have a yeast infection in my mouth called thrush. My Mom noticed that my soother smelled & made her gag at my 4:30 am feed. It makes sense as it's been hard for me to take the bottle lately. The yeast causes a very sore mouth with a white coating over some areas with little buds... ick. And my Mom thought cleaning up the kitty's hairballs was bad! She now has to put medicine in my mouth four times a day for a week. I'm pretty sure I won't like it. My Mom, being the germaphobe that she is, will probably wash her hands raw now between soap & hand sanitizer! She will also be extra busy sterilizing all stuff that enters my mouth repeatedly.

On a more positive note, Mom also realized at 4:30 am this morning that I did not cry yesterday. She checked with Dad to make sure it was true. And it is! It may just be my first 'no cry' day since being home. I can assure you that it won't happen too often!

I received a clean bill of health today at the pediatricians. Dr. Schroter thinks I am doing so very well. I'm growing, 12lb 9oz and 22.5 inches, and on track with all my developmental milestones. She said my extreme gassiness is a phase & probably at its peak. I know my Mom & Dad hope that is true. Oh and my diaper rash is actually a yeast infection so I need a special ointment on my bum until the rash goes away. It definitely is much better than a few days ago thankfully.

I had such a good visit with Baba. She fed me overnights so Mom & Dad could sleep. She made me smile and was very patient with me when I fussed, fussed and fussed some more. Babas are great!

My Mami & Papi are coming to visit me next week from Quebec. This will be the first time they get to see me at home and not in a hospital. I believe they will be pleased with my progress and of course my cuteness & chubiness!

Hangin' Out With Baba

Baba arrived today for a visit which I am very excited about! Mommy & I picked her up at the airport this afternoon. It was my first time driving on the Deerfoot & probably the first time Mommy drove the speed limit. But we made it without any trouble besides some road rage grumblings from Mom.

Unfortunately I have been dealing with my first diaper rash; my poor little bum is very red & very sore. This has made my Mom & Dad quite upset. Also, I have been fighting another cold and coping with bad gas. Boy, what's a baby to do?

Did you know I like to keep my Mom & Dad up all the time? I eat every 2 - 3 hours and don't like sleeping in my crib during the day so I get carried around most of the day! I used to nap in my bouncy chair but I've been extremely fussy lately so I prefer my Mom or Dad's arms. Mommy doesn't like to hear stories of babies my age sleeping through the night. I think she would like just 4 hours in a row of sleep... maybe one day I'll let her! For now, keep the bottle coming!!
